You'll hear some instructors and pros talk about "shifting weight" in the golf swing. Some will say it's necessary to have a great golf swing, but it's one of golf's biggest misunderstandings.

﻿Here's the thing - it's not really a weight shift, it's a "pressure shift". ﻿There's a HUGE difference between the two.

Alex was struggling with an over the top golf swing. 

It was causing him to hit slices, shanks, pulls. As you can imagine, golf was getting frustrating for him - he felt like he was back at square one.

To make matters worse, he had a family golf trip coming up and his swing wasn't working. He needed to get a swing fix NOW so that he could enjoy himself (instead of embarrassing himself).

Practicing the golf swing takes hard and focused effort to get results.

It’s not like other things in life. Things like cooking - you get better the more you do it. Or, playing an instrument, your hands get better the more you practice.

Golf is another story. You can practice all day long BUT if you’re working on the wrong things you won’t get better. This is why the game is so challenging.

The answer to playing great golf is this - “To get good at golf you need to have good practice sessions!”

This means avoiding common practice pitfalls like:
1. Getting frustrated after one bad shot
2. Trying out 10 different golf tips to see which one works best
3. Rapid-firing through a whole bucket of balls in 5 minutes
I bet you’ve had a practice session where you’ve done at least one of those things. I know I have!

Whenever I get frustrated on the range, my practice suffers. My game goes backwards and I stop improving.

It’s important to have a system for practice so that you avoid making these common mistakes. 
That’s why I made today’s video - to show you how I practice to ensure good results.

You’re going to see a real practice session with me. I’ll hit some great shots. I’ll hit some bad ones. The important takeaway from this video is that I stuck with the process. That’s how you improve!

"Tom, you don't talk about the backswing extension involved in a good takeaway? Why not? It's a huge piece of the backswing."

There's a lot of insturction that focuses on 
creating width
 or "getting wide" in the backswing. The idea is that you can create more power if you have more width. While width is an important piece for creating power in your swing, it's not as important to the takeaway. Why?

Today's members only tip is all about great ball striking. Getting great ball striking time and time again. It's a beautiful feeling. It's worth its weight in gold.

How do you arms finish after impact? Are they straight? Bent? Is one arm shorter than the other?

If you're seeing that either arm is bent, you're losing power and consistency. That means, there's more power and crispy ball striking left in the tank! 

Keeping your arms straight after impact is an amazing key. 
For one, it's easy to think about. The best part is that keeping your arms straight increases power and accuracy. Keeping your arms straight gets you a crispy divot after the ball. 

Arms straight can fix so many things and has so many BIG benefits.
 It can get rid of slices and hooks. Errant golf shots will be a thing of the past when you get your arms straight. This is why I practice arms straight all the time - it always improves your golf swing.

Today's tip gave me much more control over my golf shots. The moment I learned this about my shoulders, I was able to fix slices and hooks - and turn them into straight golf shots.

It was so simple too. All I had to do was keep my shoulders swinging "on line".

It's an easy thought - once you see "the line" I talk about in this video, it's eye-opening.

Many golfers think to fix a hook or slice requires big swing changes BUT it's not true. Sometimes the fix is something as simple as swinging on "the line" (your shoulder line, that is).

You'll ﻿find that you can fix almost every golf swing problem by keeping your trail arm tucked in close to your body.

﻿Bad golf shots - inconsistent golf shots. They all happen when your trail arm disconnects from your body. It's probably the #1 swing flaw out there.

﻿Work on getting this arm tucked in close to your body! It's a WINNER.
